Hai danh sách đầu tiên sẽ bao gồm các trường đại học không yêu cầu điểm thi tốt nhất (tức là những trường xếp hạng trong top 100), và danh sách cuối cùng sẽ bao gồm tất cả các trường không yêu cầu điểm thi khác trong cả nước Mỹ.

“Test Optional” (Không Yêu Cầu Điểm Thi) Nghĩa Là Gì?

Theo định nghĩa cơ bản nhất, không yêu cầu điểm thi nghĩa là bạn không cần nộp điểm SAT hoặc ACT để được xem xét nhập học vào một trường cụ thể. Vì vậy, mặc dù bạn có thể nộp điểm thi nếu muốn, nhưng bạn không thực sự bắt buộc phải làm điều đó.

Các trường không yêu cầu điểm thi giảm tầm quan trọng của SAT và ACT bằng cách biến các kỳ thi này thành một phần không cần thiết trong quá trình nhập học. Vì vậy, nếu bạn đã thi SAT hoặc ACT nhưng không đạt điểm cao như kỳ vọng, bạn có thể nộp đơn vào các trường không yêu cầu điểm thi để tránh phải gửi những điểm thi không đạt có thể làm ảnh hưởng đến đơn xin nhập học của bạn.

Không Yêu Cầu Điểm Thi (Test Optional)

Ví dụ, nếu bạn cảm thấy điểm SAT của mình không tốt, bạn có thể chọn không nộp điểm và thay vào đó tập trung làm nổi bật các phần khác trong đơn xin nhập học, như bài luận cá nhân và sơ yếu lý lịch.

Các trường đại học không yêu cầu điểm thi nổi tiếng bao gồm Đại học Chicago, Đại học Wake Forest, Cao đẳng Bowdoin, Đại học Bucknell, Cao đẳng Pitzer, và Đại học Brandeis.

Linh Hoạt Điểm Thi (Test Flexible)

Các trường linh hoạt điểm thi hơi khác so với các trường không yêu cầu điểm thi thông thường. Ở những trường này, bạn có thể nộp các điểm thi khác thay cho điểm SAT/ACT. Các điểm được chấp nhận sẽ khác nhau tùy theo trường, nhưng bạn thường có thể đáp ứng yêu cầu SAT/ACT bằng cách nộp điểm từ các kỳ thi AP, IB, hoặc các bài kiểm tra xếp lớp do trường tổ chức**.

Các trường linh hoạt điểm thi từng phổ biến hơn trước đại dịch, nhưng hiện nay nhiều trường trong số đó đã chuyển sang chính sách không yêu cầu điểm thi. Hiện tại, Đại học New York (NYU) là trường linh hoạt điểm thi nổi tiếng duy nhất (và họ hiện cũng đang không yêu cầu điểm thi).

Thay Thế Bằng Xếp Hạng Lớp/Học Điểm (Class Rank/GPA Substitution)

Tại một số trường, bạn có thể không cần gửi điểm SAT/ACT chỉ khi bạn đáp ứng yêu cầu tối thiểu về GPA hoặc xếp hạng lớp của trường. Nếu bạn đáp ứng các yêu cầu này, bạn sẽ được tự động nhận vào trường. Tuy nhiên, nếu bạn không đáp ứng các yêu cầu tối thiểu này, bạn phải nộp đơn như bình thường và gửi điểm SAT/ACT cùng với đơn xin nhập học.

Yêu cầu cụ thể sẽ khác nhau, nhưng bạn thường cần ít nhất xếp hạng trong top 10% hoặc GPA không trọng số 3.5.

Không Xem Xét Điểm Thi (Test Blind)

Loại trường không yêu cầu điểm thi cuối cùng là trường không xem xét điểm thi. Với chính sách này, điểm SAT/ACT không được xem xét trong quá trình nhập học, ngay cả khi bạn nộp chúng trong đơn xin.

Các trường không xem xét điểm thi bao gồm các trường thuộc Đại học California (ít nhất đến năm 2025), Cao đẳng Hampshire, và Đại học Bang Washington. Số lượng trường không xem xét điểm thi đang tăng lên; tuy nhiên, đây vẫn là một chính sách hiếm.

Các Trường Đại Học và Cao Đẳng Không Yêu Cầu Điểm Thi Tốt Nhất

Mặc dù phần lớn các trường hàng đầu yêu cầu điểm SAT/ACT, nhưng vẫn có một số trường đáng chú ý—from các trường cao đẳng nghệ thuật tự do nổi tiếng đến các đại học nghiên cứu danh tiếng—là không yêu cầu điểm thi.

Nộp Điểm SAT/ACT Nếu…

• Bạn đạt điểm SAT/ACT cao: Nếu bạn đạt (hoặc vượt) mục tiêu điểm của mình và cao hơn nhiều so với mức trung bình của trường, việc nộp điểm thi chắc chắn sẽ giúp bạn nổi bật trong quá trình xét tuyển bằng cách nhấn mạnh tiềm năng học tập của bạn.

“Test optional” thực sự có nghĩa là gì? Khi một trường áp dụng chính sách này, bạn được quyền quyết định có nộp điểm SAT/ACT hay không.
