1. Karsh International Scholarship hỗ trợ đến đâu?

Karsh được thiết kế riêng cho outstanding international students tại Duke.

Programme không chỉ tài trợ:

tuition.

Nó còn cover:

room + board + mandatory fees

và:

demonstrated need vượt ngoài những khoản đó.

Ngoài academic-year support, Scholar còn có:

3 summers of funding

cho:

• research;
• unpaid internships;
• những opportunities giúp phát triển academic career.

Đây là điểm khiến Karsh vượt nhiều full-tuition scholarships.

Một award chỉ trả tuition vẫn để family xử lý housing + food + fees.

Karsh xử lý cả những khoản core cost đó và sau đó còn đưa Scholar vào một ecosystem có dedicated summer funding.

 

2. Có nên gọi Karsh là “full ride”?

ALT khuyên dùng cách diễn đạt chính xác hơn:

Full-cost-level scholarship covering tuition + room/board + mandatory fees + additional demonstrated need + three summers of funding.

Lý do:

Duke không chỉ ghi một dollar amount cố định.

Award phụ thuộc một phần vào demonstrated financial need của individual student.

Một student undergraduate có ba summers quan trọng giữa:

Có.

6. Hidden Gate #1 — Applicant PHẢI request financial aid

Current Karsh page nói cực kỳ rõ:

để apply Karsh, applicant phải apply Duke và request financial aid.

Không có separate application.

Đây là bước dễ bị bỏ qua nhất.

Một family có thể nghĩ:

“Con cứ apply Duke trước, nếu đậu rồi mình mới xin scholarship.”

Với Karsh:

logic đó sai.

 

7. Tick “No Financial Aid Interest” có hậu quả gì?

Duke’s current international financial-aid policy nói:

international applicant admitted với:

“no financial aid interest”

sẽ không eligible để xin Duke financial aid trong bất kỳ năm undergraduate nào sau đó.

Điều này không chỉ ảnh hưởng Year 1.

Nó ảnh hưởng toàn bộ undergraduate trajectory.

Vì vậy trước khi submit application:

Family phải quyết định:

Need Aid

hay

No Aid.

Không thể nghĩ:

“Tick no aid để dễ đậu trước rồi năm 2 xin.”

Duke không cho international students làm như vậy.

 

8. Hidden Gate #2 — Request aid làm admission cạnh tranh hơn

Đây là một sự thật phải nói thẳng với phụ huynh.

Duke admission hiện ghi:

international applicants requesting need-based financial aid được xét trong một pool cạnh tranh hơn.

University còn nói admission rate của foreign citizens xin financial aid thường:

less than half of the overall admit rate.

Không nên biến câu này thành một acceptance rate cụ thể.

Duke không công bố trong wording này:

“Karsh acceptance rate = X%.”

Nhưng direction rất rõ:

international + aid request = harder admissions pool.

 

9. Vậy có nên tick “No Aid” để tăng cơ hội vào Duke?

Nếu family có khả năng tự chi trả toàn bộ Duke và không cần aid:

đó là một financial decision family có thể cân nhắc.

Gia đình không thể đợi Duke admit rồi mới quyết định có xin funding hay không. Nếu nhắm Karsh, financial-aid choice phải được đưa ra từ application đầu tiên — đồng thời gia đình phải hiểu rằng điều đó đặt con vào một international admission pool cạnh tranh hơn.

Vì vậy ALT sẽ audit Karsh candidate trên ba tầng song song:

Admission Competitiveness
→ curriculum, GPA, intellectual depth, recommendations, essays.

Scholarship Competitiveness
→ academic preparation, research potential, civic engagement, leadership và contribution.

Financial-Aid Readiness
→ CSS Profile, family income/assets, supporting evidence và consistency giữa toàn bộ financial documents.

Điểm quan trọng nhất là ba tầng đó phải kể cùng một câu chuyện. Một application nói applicant muốn dùng research để phục vụ cộng đồng nhưng activities, recommendations và academic direction không cho thấy điều đó sẽ khó tạo Karsh-level coherence.
